Back to School Book Box
One of the book boxes I have compiled is for use in the kindergarten classroom to introduce students to school culture. This selection of books can be used to further student discussions and explorations about school at any age. I have included audio books and books for exceptional learners as well.

Little Bird Tales Review
The web 2.0 tool I have chosen is called Little Bird Tales and it allows students to create
books with their own images, text and voice. I believe this tool could be used effectively in an elementary classroom (perhaps grades 2 or 3) to make a monthly class newspaper that might be sent home to parents. This newspaper would contain, for every child in the classroom, a piece of artwork, a child’s write-up on the artwork and their voice narration. For example, a student may write a column about the activities on the 100th day of school to add to the paper.
With their scanned painting of the 100th day penny drive, their mini paragraph about it and their own voice narration they would be able to share their article in a collective album that could be emailed out to parents. This idea is an updated version, for 21st century classrooms, of one of my favorite activities I remember from grade 2.
The link to the website is: http://littlebirdtales.com/ and there is a video that quickly explains how the tool can be easily used to create child-led stories.
