Students were given the opportunity to discuss and explore how advertisements are made to appeal to a certain demographic. We brainstormed groups that an advertiser might create their ads for and characteristics of things those groups might like. Students were quick to think of ideas for children and teens and we worked together to look at groups like adults, teachers, parents, girls, boys, doctors, etc. Afterwords students chose their own demographic and an object for their table to create poster ads to try and sell. They were expected to explain their choice afterwords including the name of their product, descriptive words chosen and price chosen.
