We have been teaching texture in Art. One of the lessons that my students really enjoyed was our "UP" inspired puff-paint lesson. We used a homemade paint in four colors (that I made the night
before) to show our own homes floating away with textured balloons; just like the home in the "UP" story we read. We brainstormed various textures that might be in our scene including wood grains, balloon latex, cloud fluff, the rough shingles, etc. then we used our puff paint to draw our own homes floating off into the sky. The students loved that the paint went on flat and then (after I microwaved them that night) became puffy just like balloons. If another teacher was to use this lesson I was thinking how a book like "The Balloon Tree" by Phoebe Gillman would work as well.
